Maybe dialects are a sticking point for you in your process, or maybe you have an audition coming up that requires you learn a new one. Sessions can also supplement the dialect work you’re already doing in a production you’re cast in. A coaching session can help you feel ready when you walk in the door (enter the Zoom room) for a callback or rehearsals.
Marianna also offers series of sessions geared towards giving you career-long tools for how to learn any dialect. The enhanced understanding voice & speech so we can truthfully inhabit a “new sound” on stage is an essential part of actor training for professionals.
Marianna has a degree in German and spent man years in Vienna, where, on a Teaching Fulbright, she taught topical ESL in high schools and tutored individuals. This background, in addition to her graduate acting training gives her a unique view into, and a great sensitivity around, the subject of dialects and accent modification. If you’re a non-actor interested in accent modification, click here.
A one-on-one session may include:
outlining the individual sound changes for a dialect
explanation and exploration of mouth posture, tongue position and more
listening to samples of native speakers
bring it to the text: coaching with a focus on character and story-telling, and how the dialect informs or is informed by these factors
recommendations on community & online resources
